A Wicked Way to Win an Earl
A Wicked Way to Win an Earl
The Sutherland Scandals #1
Berkley - November 3, 2015

November's In The Spotlight is A Wicked Way to Win an Earl by Anna Bradley. It is our last one for 2015 and this month, I have selected a debut Regency author with a sexy hero featured on her first cover. I love how sexy he is with just a glimpse of his chest exposed and I love the black riding boots. As I have mentioned many times, I am not a fan of covers with heroes sans heads and limbs. This cover rates an A+ for including the entire hero. The early reviews for this Regency are promising and the author has added humor to the mix, which is always welcome in romance.

Anna's debut is the first release in her The Sutherland Scandals series. It is a series about siblings dealing with their parents broken betrothal scandal and their resentment about the past. The siblings meet when Delia and Lily Chase receive an invitation to the Sutherland estate for a house party and their carriage breaks down on way to the party. When Delia seeks assistance, she encounters the eldest Sutherland son in a compromising position with a paramour. The game is on from that point forward. Will history repeat itself or will they have a happily ever after ending?

The Legend of Lyon Redmond
The Legend of Lyon Redmond
Pennyroyal Green Series ~ Book 11
Cover Design: Tom Egner
Avon - September 29, 2015

October's In The Spotlight is The Legend of Lyon Redmond by Julie Anne Long. Two things are necessary for ITS covers at Cover Cafe. First, there must be a great cover and then there must be great reviews for the romance inside.

This month's ITS is the final release in the Pennyroyal Green Series. This cover captured my heart because it portrays the joyful abandon the heroine feels at that moment. There is passion and I love how the cover designer used the gown to show the rush of movement. When the heroine leaps into the hero's arms, I can feel the immense joy of the couple and want to know their story. Plus, everyone knows I love gorgeous red gowns on covers.

The final installment deals with the reunion of a couple introduced in the first book, eldest son Lyon Redmond and Olivia Eversea. It's the tale of two wealthy families who detest each other. There is also a curse. Once every generaton, a Redmond and an Eversea will fall in love but it won't be a positive experience.

Lyon Redmond disappears for several years leaving his lady love, Olivia Eversea behind. The popular rumor is that Olivia broke Lyon's heart but is that what really happened? Olivia finally accepts a proposal and when Lyon learns of it, he returns. Will there be a second chance for the two star-crossed lovers? The reviews have been great and for fans of the series and new readers, the book promises to deliver.

Yes, there are 11 releases in this series. See a jpg of all of them here: Pennyroyal Green Series 1-11

The Rogue You Know

The Rogue You Know
The Rogue You Know
Covent Garden Cub Series ~ Book 2
Illustration: Judy York
Sourcebooks - September 1, 2015

September's In The Spotlight is The Rogue You Know by Shana Galen and it is a two-image historical romance. What makes this cover special is the loving way the hero is holding a strand of the heroine's hair and their playful expressions. You know this will be a fun romance to read. The embroidered details on the bodice, the puffed sleeves, and the over the elbow gloves add an elegant touch. I also love her beautiful cascading hair and his dark curls. The fireworks in the background signal sparks igniting between the hero and heroine.

Status and station meant everything in jolly old England and this historical romance investigates what happens when the lowest of the low meets and falls in love with someone in the upper crust. How does their romance disrupt everyone in their separate worlds? Pick up The Rogue You Know and find out what happens to this daring couple.

It's received wonderful reviews and promises fun, social angst, and love conquering all.

Return Of The Italian Tycoon
Return Of The Italian Tycoon
The Vineyards of Calanetti Series #2
Harlequin Romance - August 1, 2015

August's In The Spotlight is Return Of The Italian Tycoon by Jennifer Faye and it is a category romance with the standard couple pose on the cover. However, there are a few touches that make it stand out from all of the other category covers. First, the couple's expression is charming and authentic. They look like a "real" couple as opposed to a " strike a pose" couple, and the slightly slanted angle gives us a unique view of the couple.

Second, I love the heroine's shawl with its warm autumn colors. I don't remember seeing one on a cover before and it captures your attention and creates a cozy look.

The story inside features one of my favorite themes, a girl next door falling for her wealthy boss. Small town girl, Kayla Hill, moves to the city and pursues her career 24/7. She lands a temporary job at an advertising agency and her boss is a wealthy advertising CEO, Angleo Amatucci. Their relationship is strictly business until fate intervenes when her employer's family has a crisis in Italy. Angelo returns to his childhood home in Tuscany and brings his assistant so he can work on business.

You know what happens next...romance under the Tuscan sun. The couple's journey to HEA makes a wonderful late summer read and it has received wonderful reviews.

Put Up Your Duke
Put Up Your Duke
A Dukes Behaving Badly novel #2
Avon - June 30, 2015

July's In The Spotlight is Put Up Your Duke by Megan Frampton and it is a classic romance cover but the couple is endearing. Yes, it features the typical hero with his shirt half off and the heroine is in a very long gorgeous gown. And yes, they are draped across the often used sofa prop but their expressions capture your attention. I appreciate that the heroine isn't exposing her raised and/or bent leg and that she is totally dressed. Plus, how romantic is the pose with her lovingly nestled between the hero's legs? Sigh...this is a very romantic cover.

The story inside is even more important and this romance aces the challenge. I love marriage of convenience romances and one that has humor is icing on the cake. Put Up Your Duke features Nicholas, a very bad playboy, who suddenly discovers he's become a Duke complete with an iron clad betrothal. It's a classic premise! Saving the Duke's newly acquired estate requires following through with the marriage and that is where the fun begins.

Can a playboy without scruples find happiness with beautiful Isabella, the perfect little good girl? It's a romance so the ending will be about love conquering all; but the humor along the way keeps the story fresh.
