2011 Is Here and So Are the Latest Covers!
The 2010 nominations closed on January 15th, 2011. In the next few months, the Cover Cafe committee will finish preliminary voting on the 677 nominations received via our nomination form during 2010. When the final ballots are cast, there will be 10 finalists in each of our six categories - AR, CO, HST, SE, TIC, and the infamous WO category. Look for Cover Cafe's annual contest scheduled for online voting in May, 2011.
Nominations for 2011 romance covers opened on January 16th and will be open until January 15, 2012. If you see a terrific cover published during 2011, be sure to fill out a nomination form.

To start off the year with a positive spin, I'm posting a few 2011 covers I've seen that I think deserve a nomination this year. Tell me what you think of my finds and even better, which 2011 covers have caught your eye.
The sunset colors are exquisite on A River To Cross. The classic cowboy, riding towards the sunset with his trusty companion, combined with the beautiful woman looking off into the distance won me over. (Even though, the woman is one of those pesky GFP aka giant floating people.) On the second cover, Pride and Pleasure, the sultry couple is looking at something in front of them. I imagine they are gazing into a mirror and he's slowly seducing her with his words and touch. They both give off a sexy vibe and the sensuous looks on their faces intrigue me. The cover has a clean, simple design and the couple's pose is different from the usual historical clinch.

Passion is eerie and mysterious which is perfect for the Alternate Reality genre. The young woman's Gothic looks, complete with her coal black hair, her elegant black gown, and the single red rose in her hand, makes you wonder about her. The smokey clouds circling behind her add an ominous touch. Forgotten Sea showcases a gorgeous male emerging from beneath the surface of the sea. With his skin glistening in the twilight, he pushes back his hair in that oh-so-sexy way. The background is also beautiful but few will notice the ship anchored in the distance.
And
finally, Rocky Mountain Redemption, charmed me the first moment I laid eyes on the cover. I love the warm autumn colors, the china cups filled with coffee (I'm projecting but since I'm a coffee fanatic, coffee is what I imagine is in those cups.), the glow of the lantern shining softly on their faces, and they're wearing coats, so you know there's a chill in the air. They sit casually on the steps, deep in discussion, and they look so natural. The cover is cozy, elegant, and makes me curious about this couple. What type of redemption does the heroine need from the handsome doctor?
What styles will art directors, graphic artists, photographers, and illustrators create this year? I hope there are some new trends on the horizon and one or two covers that take our breath away in 2011.
Happy reading and keep an eye out for great covers!
