I've had a love/hate relationship with cartoon covers over the years. When they are clever or charming...then I love them. However, when they distort body proportions or look amateurish then I hate them with a passion worthy of a romance novel. Every year, I search for cartoon covers that I can fall in love with and I always keep my fingers crossed, hoping poorly designed cartoon covers will not be published. And every year, I win some and I lose some. Here are a few worthy cartoon covers I discovered while on the hunt for excellent 2011 covers.

I love the bright red, the tongue in cheek title, and the sophisticated cartoon heroine gracing the cover of Cheri on Top. A Royal Match is a combination of a drawing and a photograph that works well with the red, white, and blue color scheme.

The retro whimsy on Taking the Lead charmed me when I first noticed it online and the pastel colors and those adorable tennis shoes won me over on Back When You Were Easier to Love. What about you? Do you love or hate cartoon covers or do you not even notice them at all? Have a wonderful March - spring is on the horizon and this Chicago land chick can't wait for it to arrive.
