My favorite time of the year is between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. I was born the day before Thanksgiving and in my early years, I thought the Thanksgiving dinner and celebration were a birthday celebration created just for me. I was a little crest fallen when I realized the turkey and stuffing weren't just for my birthday but I still loved the day because it also meant the beginning of holiday fun.
There is a sense of joy and love that happens in the month of December and a sense of hope for the new year arriving soon. There is so much to do in December with shopping (OK that tends to be stressful), baking, parties, decorating, and those always popular outdoor Christmas lights. My husband and I usually fought over the placement of those lights on our bushes and our Christmas tree. Thankfully, pre-lit trees, wreaths, and garlands have made that a distant memory.
There are always covers that just miss making the final slate in our annual contest. This past year, I had each of the category chairs give a shout out to two nominations that didn't make the final 10 in their category. I'm going to do the same for the Holiday Favorites contest. The committee voted on 59 Holiday Covers and 10 covers survived the voting. The majority of covers depict the Christmas Holidays but I hope in future years there are more covers produced for Thanksgiving, Kwanza, Hanukkah, and New Years, too. Let's see some of the terrific covers that almost made the 2011 ballot.
Thank you to everyone who voted in the 2011 Holiday Favorites Contest. Results will be posted after the New Year's holiday.
