I'm always on the hunt for new and notable covers. This week, I discovered a YA cover that impressed me so much, I immediately searched for the artist behind the cover. The cover for Winter Queen by Amber Argyle took my breath away. I'm talking about instant cover love on my part and after some online sleuthing, I discovered a few details about the artist behind the cover. Laura Sava is from Romania and she has been a professional freelance illustrator since 2008.
Take a look at the cover flat below for the hardcover version (including the front and back flaps) and then the larger jpg of just the front illustration. The details are mesmerizing and the cover is gorgeous!
Laura has some of her artwork showcased on Deviant Art and on CGHub. Make sure you locate the cover for Amber Argyle's upcoming October release, Witch Fall. Laura has created another fascinating illustration for Amber. Don't miss it.
Her style reminds me of Kinuko Craft, who has done many, many covers for fantasy and SF books, particularly those of Patricia A. McKillip. Sava has the time intricate detail and delicacy that you can find on Craft's covers, but she has her own unique touches as well. What a great discovery!
